Another Routine Day Breaks
In the winter of 1957 my grandfather purchased a 16mm camera shot intermittent footage over the next few years (roughly 1957 to 1959). The events range from fascinating to sublime, from backyard Americana barbecues to racy party footage.
Below is my homage to an era, set to Brokeback’s “Another Routine Day Breaks.” Released on Field Recordings From The Cook County Water Table (1999, Thrill Jockey) and used with permission.
Bro,
You are wrong. The next gen will feel every bit the wonder and nostalgia that we do.
Bro,
I don’t know how I missed watching this clip before. I’m a little teary eyed with nostalgia after recognizing younger versions of elders both departed and still here, as well as that big old house in PA. Spent many a fine summer day exploring that neighborhood. Can’t help but think there is not much documented history of our formative years to bestow upon the next gen that would have the same nostalgic effect years from now. Hope I’m wrong about that.
